The Power to Make a Difference! The Central New Jersey Mothers and Teens have raised over $50,000, donated food, volunteered for community food banks, donated items for moms of premature babies, and supported health issues affecting the African American community such as breast cancer, and heart disease. There’s more work to do and these smart, courageous and beautiful ladies are making a difference in the community everyday.

The mothers of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. are celebrating 79 years since our founding. We are doctors, attorneys, educators, community activists, engineers, entrepreneurs, Girl Scout Troop Leaders, accountants and triathletes.  Our mothers are graduates of historically Black Colleges & Universities, Big 10 and Ivy League universities. The mothers of Jack and Jill of America,Inc. look for opportunities to find solutions to problems in our communities. We use our power collectively to Make a Difference in our communities everyday. #BETHEDIFFERENCE

Why have you served all these years?

From a fundamental, Christian perspective, we are all called to serve. This is why we were created. This is what is expected. The Bible reiterates this command numerous times that we are to serve…and not just serve for the sake of serving, but serve joyfully and willfully. So, if I believe in God’s word, the question becomes, “why would I ever choose not to serve?” and particularly, why would I ever miss an opportunity to help impact the lives of others, to fulfill an unmet need, or to inspire the hearts and minds of our children? It has been a pleasure to serve this organization and I pray that when ever I have served or how ever I have served, that it was good service, that it was the right service, and that it was service in which God was pleased.

How have you seen your children flourish through the years since joining?

Since joining Jack & Jill when our daughters were 2 and 3 years old, Jack and Jill has played a significant role in helping to develop their character, leadership skills, and cultural awareness. I have seen them leverage opportunities to grow into leadership. I have witnessed them embrace the joy in and necessity in serving. I have seen them conquer their fears and try things they may not have otherwise though to do because they knew that they were in a more supportive environment. I have watched them grow into deeper self-awareness. I have watched them set goals for themselves, accomplish many and fall short of some, but enjoy the journey through it all. I have enjoyed watching them create a beautiful “village” of their own that I know will follow them for the rest of their lives. I have loved every moment of watching them transform during their time in Jack & Jill into young ladies in which we can all be proud and all rest assured that they will continue to work to represent the ideals of organization and being fueled by the love and support they received from so many of you in the organization.

What do the relationships you’ve built mean to you? There are no words to truly describe the relationships I have built on my Jack & Jill, but suffice it to say, they are simply priceless and unforgettable. Each relationship has given me reason to love this organization deeply and a reason to continue to seek opportunities to give back to it. They have represented anchors to keep me grounded in my foundation, wings to help me soar in my dreams and new ideas, energy when I felt at my weakest, and comfort when I needed moments of peace. Each of you has been a need answered…and for that, I will always be grateful.
